Herbal Remedies For Immune System

July 9th, 2008 : Category: general health

Hi

I came across this post out in the old blogosphere and I thought I would share it with you as I believe that it is what this site is all about, and that is natural ways to keep healthy

Enjoy

The immune system, which is made up of special cells, proteins, tissues, and organs, defends people against germs and microorganisms every day. In most cases, the immune system does a great job of keeping people healthy and preventing infections. But sometimes problems with the immune system can lead to illness and infection.

Immune System Herbal Remedies

ASTRAGALUS
- A powerful antioxidant, which protects the liver from toxins, boosts the immune system and generates anticancer cells in the body.

ECHINACEA
- Enhances lymphatic function and boosts immune system.

GINKGO BILOBA - A powerful antioxidant, which increases circulation to brain cells.

GOLDENSEAL - An antibacterial which strengthens the immune system and cleanses the blood (Don’t take internally for more than a week at a time or if pregnant).

When dealing with colds and flu, the time to take action is when you first have an inkling that you might be getting sick. At this moment you can actually keep the cold or flu from coming on by taking immediate action. The early warning signs my be a scratchy throat, an achy tired feeling, or that feeling of just not quite being up to par.

Keeping your immune system healthy will also serve to ward off fatigue; if your body is worn down, you will be less successful at fighting infections. Immune system cells can be damaged or destroyed by what is known as ‘free radicals’; namely, unstable oxygen molecules. These free radicals develop due to poor nutrition, alcohol, cigarettes, and other pollutants in the air.

Vitamins from proper nutrition and eating healthy will help to stave off the forming of free radicals. If you find yourself lacking a certain vitamin or two in your diet, try taking a multi-vitamin once per day.

When the level of testosterone increases the body secretes hormone like substances to fight the inflammation caused by it. Immune system health and acne are thus interrelated and a strong immune system can effectively prevent acne. A healthy lifestyle that avoids junk food, regular exercise and herbs for strengthening immune system are natural means of preventing and fighting acne.

Diabetics suffering from Type 2 diabetes will find that they need a longer period for their cuts to heal. This is especially true when it comes to the person’s feet. This is considered to be an indicator because doctors are not quite sure why this is. The immune system is affected by the abnormal glucose level which seems to be the cause for the slower paced healing and infection fighting.

Is Gastric Surgery The Answer?

July 5th, 2008 : Category: Weight Loss and Diets
I understand weight is an emotional issue, but when I see clips like the following I do tend to get frustrated.

You see i picked up on several things on this video, First of all well done to the guy involved for getting some exercise into his life for that is a positive start.

But other than that this all falls apart because it is addressing the wrong issues.

You will see a section where he mentions about living on borrowed time, now it might just be me but it is said so matter of fact, probably because deep down he is saying it out loud but not admitting it to himself.

Also this gentleman ends out having gastric surgery - and the key part to this as you will hear in the video is that IF HE DOES NOT CHANGE HIS LIFESTYLE, HE COULD STAY THE SAME WEIGHT OR EVEN GAIN.

Gosh that is so important, and it is also why he should not be having this surgery, because quite simply if you cannot commit to lifestyle changes and react to the fact that you know you are living on borrowed time, then this kind of surgery is an easy way out AND the chances are you will not change your lifestyloe anyway.

I know I’m ranting but it is there for all to see, and it’s not just weight it is any change in life that you are after, stop trying to seek the easy way out, admit you are where you are because of your choices, change because you want to do it for you and NOT for anyone else, do some research on a plan you would like to follow, and then stick to it and you will start to see the results you want.

Rant over, have a great Saturday

Consuming Green Tea To Aid Weight Loss

July 4th, 2008 : Category: food
I like this post that is reproduced below as it has some good info in it about green tea.
My only observation of itis that it recommends drinking it in the evening and I have always found green tea to be a stimulant so you may find it more energising than relaxing
by Jill Johnson

Medical research is currently being carried out in an attempt to substantiate the many uses of green tea, but the results will take years to obtain. One simple use we can tease out of the complicated benefits is the use of green tea as an antioxidant. It is believed that drinking green tea or ingesting it in liquid or tablet form will provide your body with the antioxidants that will enable you to burn calories in a natural manner and thus achieve weight loss.

Green tea has superior anti-aging qualities, on top of being highly beneficial to a person’s metabolism. Green tea increases the rate that the human body regenerates its cells and slows down the oxidation of the cells. When using green tea for weight loss it is counted on for its laxative properties as well as toxin purging, these effects benefit the metabolism. Products using green tea hasten our normal metabolic rate and increase the number of calories that we burn.

Green tea for weight loss will not work if the person using if for weight loss refuses to eat healthily or incorporate exercise into their weight loss plan. To use green tea to its best advantage the person needs to adjust their mental attitude and their basic diet into a healthier mode.

If you drink your green tea, you should enjoy it in the evening as part of your bedtime ritual. For a few days after first starting this regimen, some may notice a bit of mild bowel and stomach discomfort as the body adjusts to its faster metabolic rate. This is a normal and temporary effect. You will begin to see positive effects within a week as long as you stick to your program of taking in lots of fluids, eating vegetables, and exercising moderately.

A common additive to green tea is ginseng root extract, as the combination makes both ingredients work more effectively. Ginseng root not only provides minerals and vitamins the body desperately needs during a detox regimen, but it has long been called the ‘root of life’ in Tibet and China.

Ginseng is also a great source of energy when you add it to the green tea products and is very apparent when a person is dieting to lose weight, for it helps them keep their energy levels up. Ginseng also has properties that increase the efficiency of a dieter’s immune system. Ginseng and green tea are natural substances that are safe to use, even if you plan to be dieting for as long as twenty-six weeks.

Depressing Weight Loss

July 3rd, 2008 : Category: Weight Loss and Diets

The world we live in is MAD

You would think that governments would want doctors to be encouraging people to take up a healthy lifestyle, but no they allow them to use drugs like the ones you will see in the clip below.

But the real mad thing about all of this is that these drugs will have to be taken for a lifetime OR the person taken them is just going to yo-yo and get more depressed and probably more obese.

Natural Acne Cures

July 1st, 2008 : Category: Acne

Like anything in life, especially potentially embarrassing ailments, companies quite rightly will jump on the problem to create a solution for the customer to buy. Now that is great, but when we are disscussing some of these ailments such as acne, is it really necessary to put some of these harsh chemicals on the skin?

Well I think you probably know my answer to that, so we are going to spend the rest of this article looking at some ways to cure acne in a more natural way.

Natural acne cures are less costly and are probably more successful than prescription medications for dealing with acne. Most natural acne cures are made of plant extracts that dry up black and white heads and soothe the skin, without actually drying the skin itself out. Natural acne cures are everywhere you look; herbals, aloes and stuff like that. All sounds real good, but how can natural be bad for you? Natural acne cures are products with substances not man made or synthetic but rather substances that are naturally occurring in the Earth.

They can be anything, but has to be non-poisonous to the human body, so lets have a look at some of the natural acne cures that are available. Vitamins B3, B5 and E have been strongly advocated by supporters of natural remedies. Oral formulations that clean up blood and digestive system are just as popular as creams and lotions. Vitamin C topical also boosts collagen production in the skin. You should consult with your doctor about Vitamin C topical brand because Vitamin C is highly unstable and must be formulated properly. Dietary supplements, such as folic acid, echinacea and zinc can have drastic effects upon the skin, without introducing harsh and alien chemical substances into the body.

A healthy diet and a good cleansing routine are also extremely important, as these are the basic tools for healthy skin, that will give your body the tools it needs to fight acne effectively. Diet is a natural treatment that will help you effectively treat your acne problem. Coconut oil and various herbs, such as burdock and dandelion root have proven to be effective acne treatments as well. Tea tree oil contains a constituent called terpinen-4-oil that’s thought to be responsible for most of tea tree oil’s anti-bacterial activity. Because tea tree oil can kill bacteria, applying topical tea tree oil to acne lesions is believed to kill Propionibacterium acnes , the skin-dwelling bacteria involved in causing acne. Tea Tree oil is used by some for acne and others even bathe in a soothing hot tub of Epsom salts. This can be especially helpful for acne that’s broken out on your back.

Herbal remedies and even homemade treatments such as garlic rubs, honey and cinnamon and even lemon juice might have an impact. It’s worth trying these options and other natural acne cures and treatment choices before moving up to more harsh treatments, if it is at all possible. Finally, the most natural cure of all - our food and water. Drinking enough water each day is vitally important. Drink lots of water, and eat a healthy diet. And by a healthy diet I mean getting rid of the fried and processed food, and increasing the amount of fruit and veg that you eat. You have probably heard it before, but you do need to be eating your five portions a day. While there are no clear connections with acne to a person’s diet, your skin is the largest organ on your body and keeping your body healthy will naturally keep your skin healthy.

The Weight Loss Benefit of Green Tea

June 30th, 2008 : Category: Weight Loss and Diets

Great post this that I found today about green tea. I am a big fan of this and have a personal favourite which I have used for 10 years or so now. And, not only do I think green tea helps with weight loss, but I also think it can assist with a great many other ailments.

Enjoy

For 4,000 years, Asians have regarded green tea as something more than just a beverage. Green tea was used as herbal medicine and treatment for everything from headaches to depressions and even to weight loss.

Researches have been conducted over the last few years to identify what compound present in green tea makes it a potent health drink. The scientists have found that green tea contains several antioxidants which are responsible for many of green tea’s health benefits, including weight loss benefit.

A research study by American and Swiss scientists on the weight loss benefit of green tea was concluded and the results of which were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and Urology. During the course of their study, they have found that green tea contains certain compounds that contribute to its weight loss benefit.

Lead researcher, D. Abdul Dulloo said in a press release that there are only two ways to achieve weight loss – either reduce energy intake or increase energy expenditure. Green tea, it seems, has compounds that can increase the body’s normal metabolism rate, thus giving it its weight loss benefit.

At the University of Geneva, where the study was conducted, Dr. Dulloo and his colleagues experimented on ten healthy young men. They theorized that the main contributor to green tea’s weight loss benefit is its caffeine content. To test this hypothesis on green tea’s weight loss benefit, they placed the study’s participants on a typical “Western” diet which is about forty percent fat, thirteen percent protein, and forty-seven percent carbohydrates.

Thrice everyday, the researchers measured their subjects’ energy expenditure (the measurement used in determining the number of calories burned in 24 hours) and monitored their respiration quotient to find out how well they utilized their carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

When they interpreted the data they collected, they found out that the men receiving regular dosages of green tea extract showed a significant increase in their 24-hour energy expenditure and a reduction in their respiration quotient (which means that more fat is burned, thereby achieving maximum weight loss). On the other hand, those men who were only given caffeine or placebo with every meal showed only minimal increases in their metabolism rates.

The scientists construed that the substance catechin polyphenol present in green tea adds to its weight loss benefit. These substances in green tea may alter how the body uses the hormone norepinephrine which is responsible for increasing the metabolism rate, thus leading to weight loss.

In their conclusion, the scientists inferred that green tea owes its weight loss benefit to the presence of antioxidants and the substance catechin polyphenol. These substances help increase fat and calorie burning and optimize weight loss.

Laser Acne Treatment

June 28th, 2008 : Category: Acne
There is a lot o interest in laser acne treatment, so I thought I would show you exactly what is involved should you be looking at getting this treatment yourself.
Now my understanding of it is that this is a very effective treatment for acne scarring, and although it does help to remove acne as well, in my opinion this should be the very last resort as an acne treatment, you may be better of looking at this acne treatment first as it is a lot cheaper, natural and long lasting. But it’s your choice.
