This is the way you body burns calories in that metabolism means the way your body breaks down what you eat and uses it for energy. When your body’s metabolism is high, you are burning more calories. You are losing weight because your body is burning off the calories you eat rather than storing them as fat. Many people try to lose weight simply by eating less and this is a good way to lose weight if you can keep your calories down.

The result is people begin wanting food. This is only natural. To compensate for calories they did not eat the last two or three days, they overeat. The Weight Loss Dilemma Long Term and Permanent Results

November 20th, 2009 -- Posted in Health and Fitness | No Comments »

Losing weight is a big problem in the US, and many suffer the diet blues. Even when one has lost all the weight intended and reached their goal weight maintenance is a constant struggle.

For many choosing a diet becomes the central focus. But, choice of diet is only a portion of the dilemma. Searching for a diet that fits you is easy, there are hundreds of weight loss plans out there with all kinds of theories, eating plans and disciplines, you can find many at the free weight loss plans website.

It is the motivation for the long term that eludes many. One of the setups for failure is to view diets as temporary. Real long term weight loss that stays off for good comes from profound eating changes and not temporary diets. This is where the importance of the diet plan you choose really comes into play and thoroughly researching weight loss programs list is a crucial task to ensure long term success. Choose a diet that is geared for the long term.

Most think people, eat to live and not vice versa as the overweight. We view food much differently than our thinner friends, and we love it much more than they do. A healthy weight is very much psychological as well as a physical ordeal. Much of the struggle is the fact that we do not find peace with food, but instead we yo yo diet and keep repeating self defeating behaviors. Yo-yo dieting is very prevalent in the weight loss subject and many of us dieters have tried at least 10 diets before we hit our thirties. Most people when they think of weight loss, will say things like, “I am going on a diet”, which is automatically a temporary solution to a long term problem.

Overall healthy eating is a profound change and choosing an eating plan that makes you lose weight and change attitude toward food is the best way to go.

Dieting is a Journey and a Destination

April 11th, 2009 -- Posted in Health and Fitness | No Comments »

Losing weight is a difficult life long battle for many people. We think of weight loss as a quick fix instead of a lifestyle change. This misunderstanding about the true purpose of weight loss will never lead to permanent results. Choose weight loss for its long-term benefits. The road will be filled with hills and valleys, but simple deliberate actions like these will help on the road ahead.

Lifestyle Change: When you are discouraged after a bad week of no weight loss, remember this is a lifelong change. You have entered into this journey for the rest of your life. This is a pact you have made with yourself and have chosen better health.

Accountable Actions: Find a person attempting to reach similar goals. Keep one another accountable and support one another through everything from junk food cravings to getting through the first few weeks of weight loss. This accountability will help you to put down the cookie and forage ahead.

And there’s more….

  • Plotting Your Demise: It is normal to crave junk food. Look ahead on your schedule and choose one time during the week when you can eat food outside of your original plan. This will keep your cravings at bay. Eating the correct foods immediately following this planned splurge will help you to understand healthy eating patterns. Ask a thin person if they eat junk food, and their response is likely to be an overwhelming yes. They are able to maintain by eating junk food only once or twice a week.
  • Exercise for Stress Relief: Changing the way you are eating is difficult and exercise can be perceived as an insurmountable goal. It is difficult enough to simply stop eating that extra piece of cake. Think of exercise as stress relief for dieting. After regular exercise over the course of a few short weeks, you will feel your body’s urge to go for a brisk walk or lift weights. You will be further motivated in your efforts after noticing how great your body feels after working out.
  • Reward Yourself Without Food: When milestones are reached, find a reason to celebrate. We are a culture and society that uses food to celebrate. Find something that is equally exciting. Set a goal of a few pounds, and once you have reached the goal, choose something inexpensive that you have wanted but denied yourself.

This endeavor will go on for the rest of your life. You choose the destination ahead and when to drive on and off the road. Take this journey in several short trips and you will arrive at your ultimate destination. Unlike a real trip, you will continue driving over and over again to a goal of good health.
